Mt. Vernon, Ga. - For the first time since Lee joined the Southern States Athletic Conference, the volleyball team has lost a tournament volleyball match. Shorter College battled back from a 0-2 deficit to hand the Lady Flames a stunning 3-2 defeat on Friday afternoon.

All seemed to be going well in the second round of the SSAC tournament at Brewton-Parker College on Thursday. The Lady Flames appeared to be in the midst of advancing. They defeated the Lady Hawks 30-22, 30-23 in the opening two games. The tide turned quickly when Shorter bounced back to win the third game 26-30.

Displaying plenty of confidence, the Rome, Ga. squad tied the match at 2-2 by taking the fourth game 23-30. The final action went down to the wire with Shorter pulling out the 17-19 victory and sending the Lady Flames into the loser's bracket of this tournament for the first time ever.

Shorter played a solid defensive game in advancing to face rival Berry College in the semi-final round of the winner's bracket on Saturday. The Lady Hawks returned kill after kill by the Lady Flames. Kayla Rollins had 34 digs and Amy Marvin returned 16 Lee hits. Kristy Walker joined in with 12 digs and Jenny Mealer paced Shorter with 10 kills.
