Mount Berry, Ga. - After a dramatic run through the Southern States Athletic Conference volleyball tournament, the No. 3-seeded Shorter College Lady Hawks were named runner-up after a 3-0 loss to No. 2-seeded Lee University on Saturday afternoon. Lee captured the title with the win.

The straight set game was decided in three matches - 25-22, 25-20, 25-17.

Kasi Runiuon led the Lady Hawks with seven kills, while Ashlie Stewartson had six, and Ashley Walton had five. Kristy Walker tacked on 15 assists and seven digs in the short game, while Kayla Rollins had 16 digs.

In the opening game, Lee broke open a 6-6 with a 6-0 run and Shorter was never able to cut the advantage to less than the final margin. It was the same story in the second set, when Lee zipped out to a 16-7 lead and the Lady Hawks could never catch up, although they did cut the Lady Flames' margin to 16-13. The Lady Flames won the championship by zipping out to a 20-11 margin in the final set.

Shorter's season ends with a 20-18 record, and 9-7 in the SSAC. They entered the tournament as the third seed and beat the conference champion Berry yesterday to advance to the championship today.
