Atlanta, Ga. - Shorter College senior middle blocker Kasi Runion has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week as announced by the league offices Monday afternoon.

Runion claimed the award for the second consecutive week, but enjoyed perhaps her most productive week of the season in helping the Lady Hawks to a 5-1 record.

The Ringgold native surpassed Kate Puckett as Shorter's all-time leader in kills when she recorded nine kills in a win over Reinhardt.

Runion followed up that accomplishment by registering 50 kills over the four-match Faulkner Invitational en route to earning Co-MVP honors as the Lady Hawks swept their four contests.

Runion also posted 20 blocks for the tournament and currently leads Shorter in both kills and blocks while also ranking first in the SSAC in hitting percentage at .318.

Shorter now stands at 18-7 overall and returns to conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 14 when it hosts Southern Wesleyan at the Winthrop-King Centre at 7 p.m.
