Rollins, Walker win weekly conference volleyball awards

Rome, Ga. - Following a week of stellar performances against conference-opponent Southern Wesleyan and a second place finish in the Faulkner Invitational, the Southern States Athletic Conference has announced that Kristy Walker has been named the SSAC Setter of the Week and Kayla Rollins has been named the SSAC Libero of the Week.

Walker, a junior setter from Ringgold, Ga., played in four out of five matches that Shorter (11-11, 3-4 SSAC) had last week. In her four matches, in which Shorter went 3-1, Walker averaged 12.71 assists, and chipped in 19 digs and nine service aces. She had two standout matches during the week, a 49-assist performance in Shorter's 3-0 victory over Belhaven College and 69 assists in a tough 2-3 loss to Freed-Hardeman University.

Rollins, a junior libero from Acworth, Ga., averaged 5.12 digs per game, had a serve reception percentage of .972 and contributed seven service aces. She finished up the week strong, recording 22 digs in a 3-0 victory over Spring Hill College, 25 digs in the loss to Freed-Hardeman University and 15 digs in the conference win over Southern Wesleyan.

Shorter has two conference matches this week, tomorrow night at Reinhardt College, and Wednesday night when Brenau visits the Lady Hawks' Winthrop-King Centre.
