Atlanta, Ga. - Shorter College senior middle blocker Kasi Runion has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week as announced by the conference offices Monday evening.

The honor is the third of the season for Runion, Shorter's all-time kills leader, who led the Lady Hawks to wins in their final two regular season matches.

Runion was one of four Shorter players with 10 kills in a 3-0 win at Southern Wesleyan on Friday and then posted 13 kills and seven blocks as the Lady Hawks avenged an earlier loss to Brenau University with a 3-1 victory over the Golden Tigers on Saturday. Runion had missed the first meeting with Brenau due to sickness.

The Ringgold, Ga., native continues to add to her legend with excellent performances in 2009.

She leads the team in kills with 296, leads the SSAC in hitting percentage at .334 and has reached double digit kills in five of her last six matches, including a season-high 18 in a win over Reinhardt College on Oct. 27.

Runion has 130 blocks on the year, and has led the Lady Hawks (25-8) to a school-record 25 wins and a No. 2 seed in the SSAC Tournament that takes place in Cleveland, Tenn., on the campus of Lee University this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14.
