Hawks take first in SSAC Cross Country Invitational

Mt. Berry, Ga. - The Shorter College men's cross country team took first place in the SSAC Invitational hosted by Berry College on Sept. 8 as the women took home third.

Jared Carson led the way in the Hawks' first meet of the season running the 8k course in 26:37. He was followed by Jerad Godsave and Martin Hernandez at 27:26 to round out the top three. Cyrus Wakaba came in at 6th with 27:57 and Marc Burgess in 10th with 28:41.

The performance was one of the best in the Hawks' short history since the restart of the program in 2006. Shorter's 22 points topped Berry, who came in 2nd with 48 points, Lee University with 60 points, and Reinhardt College with 118 points.

The women ended the day third behind Berry and Lee, with Magrina Chepkoech leading the way for the Lady Hawks in 3rd with a time of 20:10. Amy Worthy finished 6th with 20:50, Julie Frayre in 12th with 21:40, Courtney Pike in 18th with 22:55, and Katlin Shaw rounded things out with 19th and a time of 22:57.
